Agnès and Valère welcome you to your villa.
A l’Orée du Maquis *
*(At the Edge of the Maquis)
The purpose of this booklet is to provide the essential tips to help you make the most of your stay; feel free to help us improve it as it is certainly incomplete.
The QR Code on the last page allows you to access this same booklet along with the user manuals for the different appliances. This is also where you will find ideas for things to “see/do” in the region. The various guides and maps should be left on the premises.
Access
To open the gate from the outside, enter the code: “21950” and press the button at the bottom left to confirm. Be careful not to stand in front of the sensors as they will prevent the gate from opening and/or closing.
The automatic closing is interrupted when passing in front of the sensors. We can provide you with a remote control upon payment of a 50€ deposit (maximum one remote control per vehicle).
Septic System
Wastewater is treated by a micro treatment plant.
Please strictly dispose of only toilet paper in the toilets. Other waste (towels, cotton buds, etc.) should be placed in the bins.
Swimming Pool
The pool’s safety is ensured by an approved alarm system.
Throughout your stay, you will be responsible for its use. On the day of your arrival (or at the latest the following day if you arrive late), you will be asked to confirm that we have explained its operation to you.
In your absence and with your agreement, we may check and/or correct the water quality and water the plants.
The lighting of the pool and the pool area is controlled by an astronomical timer. The lighting can only be turned on or off from dusk until the automatic shut-off at 2 a.m.
Air Conditioning
In order to limit its environmental impact, the air conditioning stops when a window is opened.
Thermal regulations require a minimum size for openings to limit energy consumption during winter (heating, lighting). In summer, despite double glazing, it can get very hot inside if we do not take precautions to provide some shade.
Our ancestors understood this well; they would close shutters and windows during the day and open them at night to cool the house.
Wind
Chiova d’Asino is a corridor where the wind accelerates depending on its direction.
You will be surprised to find that it can be strong here and weak just a few kilometers away, or vice versa.
Before leaving, make sure to secure anything outside that the wind could move or damage.
Remember to weigh down towels and cushions and always close the parasol before leaving and before nightfall.
Ants
In Corsica, we have been experiencing an invasion of ants for a few years now.
They bite our feet as soon as we place them near them. They are extremely invasive and can enter homes through electrical conduits.
No product can effectively get rid of the Tapinoma Magnum. Prevention is the only option!
A breadcrumb, or a sweet or salty food debris is enough to see them rush to it.
At your request, we can show you their nests on the property so you don’t confuse them with other species that need to be protected.
Miscellaneous
We provide you with plates, cutlery, cups, and a cooler for your picnics, which we ask you to return in good condition.
You will find bags of ice in abundance at supermarkets and at the fresh food shop located 8 km towards Bonifacio, which is well-stocked for your shopping needs.
You will also find beach mats and two light parasols in the pantry.
The house is well-stocked with glasses, crockery, cutlery, and various accessories. Don’t hesitate to ask us if something is missing or to inform us about any broken items so we can replace them before new guests arrive. (Tar and feathers? Not here…).
